Obtaining Records

Overview

All births, deaths, marriages, civil unions, and domestic partnerships occurring within the township are recorded by the Randolph Township Registrar of Vital Statistics thus, copies of any of the aforementioned documents (non-genealogical records) may be obtained through this office.

Non-Genealogical Record (Current Events)

Pursuant to the Governor's Executive Order Number 18, the registrar may only issue a certified copy of a vital record to persons who establish themselves as the subject of the vital record, the subject's parent, legal guardian, or legal representative, spouse, child, grandchild or sibling, if of legal age.

In addition to authenticating your relationship to the subject of the vital record, you must submit proof of your identity. Acceptable forms of identification are as follows:

  • a valid photo driver's license OR
  • a valid non-photo driver's license plus an alternate form of ID with address (see below) OR
  • a photo ID non-driver's license OR
  • two alternate forms of ID with address (see below)

Alternate forms of identification:

  • county ID
  • green card
  • insurance card
  • passport
  • school ID
  • utility bill
  • vehicle registration
  • voter registration

The Application

Requests for a certified copy of a vital record may be made by mail or in person. For your convenience, we have made our Vital Records Application (PDF) available online. This is a fillable form that may be filled out on your computer, saved to your hard drive, and/or printed out.

The application and proof of your identity must accompany your request whether it is made by mail or in-person.

In Person

Bring this application, two forms of original identification from the above list, and a check or money order made payable to the Township of Randolph.

By Mail

Mail this completed application, photocopies of two acceptable forms of identification from the above list, and a check or money order made payable to the Township of Randolph. The address is: Township of Randolph, Department of Health-Vital Statistics, 502 Millbrook Avenue, Randolph, NJ 07869-3799.

Fees

  • Birth Certificate: $10
    Certified copies of birth certificates may be issued for people who were born in Randolph only.
  • Marriage/Civil Union Certificate: $10
    Certified copies of marriage and civil union licenses may be obtained for couples whose marriage or civil union ceremony was performed in Randolph only.
  • Domestic Partnership Certificate: $10
    Certified copies of domestic partnership certificates may be obtained by partners whose partnership was registered In Randolph.
  • Death Certificate: $10
    Certified copies of death certificates may be issued for people who have died in Randolph only.

Genealogical Record (Family History Research)

Births occurring more than 80 years ago, marriages occurring more than 50 years ago and deaths occurring more than 40 years ago are considered genealogical and are available through the state. To obtain this type of record, please view the state's web page regarding getting copies of genealogical records. For records older than 100 years, visit the state's archives.
